Birthday Bash!

It’s my Birthday so I’ll talk about books if I want too. Shocking, I know! I found this fun prompt over at FNM and since this is my first year blogging I’d thought I’d participate.

Since I can’t go out I will be staying in and reading and eating…sweets. I have been craving Red Velvet for a month. I don’t care if it’s a cupcake, cookie or slice of cake I just want some.

This year has been…stressful is an understatement. Losing a job and family & to top off the turd cue the fly, it’s an election year that still isn’t over and still won’t be come tomorrow night.  I know many of you live overseas & don’t care, I get it.

I just need to acknowledge this year around the sun wasn’t at all how I pictured (who did?). And I really hope it does get better very soon. It’s my birthday I can be a hopeless optimist if I want.

To cope with the next 24 –to whenever the evil passes, I will be reading & ignoring responsibilities. If you want to aid in this task link to my Amazon Wishlist

Thanks to all of you who have joined me on this adventure wh0 read and like my content it has made a world of difference 🙂

The Birthday Cake

A Book with a plot that seems cliche but adore it anyway

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I love the characters so much & they really made the story for me. For me it’s always about characters when reading stories. If they aren’t intriguing than I couldn’t care less about the book.

Party Guests

Your most anticipated book release this year

Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty! I was blessed to read this and own it. My review can be found here. Just know it was everything to me. I’m happy to know more is on the way!

Birthday Presents

A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. I love mysteries but up until this point I hadn’t been reading very many. Then this series fell into my lap and I’ve been hooked ever since. 3 things to note: Victorian London, Fake Marriage, Slow burn romance.

“Happy Birthday” song

A book that deserved all the hype

Gods of Jade & Shadow by Silvia Moreno- Garcia. This book deserves all the hype even though I feel like it gets slept on. It has angst, it has witty smart banter. A road trip. The characters are the Best! There’s Mayan Mythology. What’s not to love??

Happy Music

A book with very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. “I think you’re a fairy tale. I think you’re magical, and brave, and exquisite. And I hope you’ll let me be in your story.”

“The library knows its own mind,” old Master Hyrrokkin told him, leading him back up the secret stairs. “When it steals a boy, we let it keep him.”

“Good people do all the things bad people do, Lazlo. It’s just that when they do them, they call it justice.”

Getting Older

A book read long ago, that you’d appreciate if you read it now

The Giver by Lois Lowry. This was difficult to find an answer to. I did enjoy the discussions when I read this story at 12 or 13 but I don’t think I fully appreciated those conversations until now.

Sweet Birthday Memories

A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period in your life

This could apply to so many books, but I really remember The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa just bringing back color and life into me again. I read this series during a very dark and difficult time and this was funny with hidden depth. This world took me out of mine for a little while and let me breathe again. For that this series will always hold a special place in my heart.

It’s time to go party and by party I mean read!

How do you celebrate your birthday?

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY… I’m so heartened that on your birthday you’re being an optimist… we all need that hope in our lives especially during this period…🥰 This is such a cute tag, ahhh I wished I had known about it as my birthday was just last week haha.

I am really drawn to character-oriented stories so I am very encouraged to read Six of Crows now, thank you for sharing! ❤

Ah same, I read The Giver when I was younger solely because it was like a classic though I was confused half the time… it is time to give it a re-read…👍

Have a happy reading party! 📚
