How do you feel about abandoning book series? I think Dnfing books is great even though it never feels great at the time. In the end though it’s better to have moved on to something that interests you and you enjoy. I know for most of us reading is for fun so why read something that isn’t fun?
Most of these are series I started as far back as 7 & 8 years ago. This is just books in a series that are completed otherwise this post would double in length 😐 I’m not here to disparage anyone from reading these books or bashing people who did like these stories. I think it’s freeing to talk about stories that you’ve had to leave behind because they no longer serve you. I’m a mood reader so I rarely know what I’m picking up next which I assure you only sounds fun, but it’s cool to see the journey of a reader.
In an earlier post I made, Books I Forgot, I talked about series that I was contemplating finishing. There are but a few on this massive list that I could be swayed to finish but for the majority I have given up on that notion. This is not to say that these books are bad it’s just been too long and my interest in them has faded. So to answer my question Will I finish that series? Probably not. To see which books I reject and which I may continue with, read on.
Revenants series by Amy Plum, Until I Die, If I Should Die, I have only read the first book which is Die for Me. There is too much use of the word die for my liking even though it serves a heavy handed purpose. This is like Anna and the French Kiss except make it paranormal. It has the Paris setting romance with a side of paranormal. I read this so long ago that I can’t recall much about the powers associated with the characters that have the ability to save lives. I didn’t love this book by any means because I don’t like romance centered stories. This is a series that will remain unread for me.
Wings by Elizabeth Richards, This is the third book in the The Black City series. I only have the third one left to read. And I’m sure you’re thinking its the last book just read it but it’s been well … 7 years and I can’t. LOL I don’t know why I didn’t read it after it came out but that’s just how it is sometimes. I do however remember HATING the second book in this series. Just AWFUL. SO that may be the culprit lol The fact that I even picked the first book is surprising because 1. it has vampires and 2. it’s post apocalyptic &/or dystopian. Two things I dislike a lot. However the first book wasn’t too horrible but the second book LOL Just NO!
Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik this is the second book in the Temeraire series, The first being His Majesty’s Dragon. I did want to continue with this series but I’ve heard from others that the other books are slow & boring. I really love this book because of Temeraire. He is a talking dragon who is baby but powerful & so dang smart. This was also funny at times because of Temeraire. If you love talking animals than you must pick this up. Also it’s historical fiction. This book is firmly in the maybe pile.
Wild Card by Marie Lu, This is a sequel to a duology the first book being Warcross. Again one book and I still can’t manage it because I just didn’t care for the predictability in Warcross. I won’t go into too much here since I did in Books I Forgot, but basically, the first book didn’t leave me with wanting more.
Archenemies by Marissa Meyer. I have only read the first one and it was just alright. I love the Lunar Chronicles but I’ve struggled with her other books and this was no different. I like the idea and the superpowers but everything was pretty predictable. I don’t see myself finishing this series.
What’s a series you’re not finishing and why?
