Love You like a Love Song: A romance novel that is cliché but you still love it

You Should See Me in a Crown

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson

The High School setting doesn’t bring anything new to the field.

Honestly, the characters and the feel good moments of first love is what made this book fun to read.

Rare: A book with a female protagonist unlike any other

The Empress of Salt and Fortune (The Singing Hills Cycle, #1)

Chih the cleric in an Empress of Salt & Fortune by Nghi Vo,

She’s in charge of writing down the stories as authentically as possible.

This is stories nestled inside other stories and searching out the truth kernel inside.

Look at her now: A character who suffered a lot (physically/mentally) but eventually recovered and is now at the better end of life

Inej Ghafa from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, I cannot fathom the things she went through at such a young age. The strength and resilience in her faith was also something I admired.

Wolves: A book that got you out of a reading slump

It’s not a single book but a category, Middle Grade is usually where I go if I can’t read. There’s always an adventure and it’s just an all around fun time.

It ain’t me: A character you used to like but not anymore

Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. I don’t have a book character or at least nothing is coming to mind. However, the one that did pop up is Rory. I liked her at the time that I first watched this show but upon rewatching it I had a very different take. The show in general is awful and not something I could ever make myself watch again.

Feel Me: A character you can’t bear to see with anyone else but you

King of Scars (King of Scars Duology, #1)

This isn’t to say I want them for myself so much as I don’t agree with who they’re being set up to be with in the end.

Obviously, I’m talking about Nikolai.

I like the two characters individually but together eh, I don’t get it.

Same Old Love: A book with an unoriginal and unrealistic romance

Amazon.com: The Will and the Wilds eBook: Holmberg, Charlie N.: Kindle Store

Will of the Wilds by Charlie N. Holmberg.

Her stories tend to be original and fun but this story was flat. Everything from the characters to the storyline just wasn’t dynamic or interesting.

It didn’t do anything new with the fae which I was hoping for.

The Heart Wants What it Wants: A book you regret finishing because you are miss reading it a lot

Bloodwitch (The Witchlands, #3)

Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard,

The next book doesn’t come out until June 22, 2021 and I’ve been patiently waiting since February 2019.

I just need to know more!! I have re-read this at least a dozen times.

Back to you: A book you read again and again even though you have other books on your TBR pile

The Night Circus

I could repeat Bloodwitch but that’s boring,

The Night Circus is something I like to re-read every now and then even though I have a horde of books I haven’t read yet. lol

Hit the Lights: A book that just made you forget everything else

Amazon.com: These Violent Delights (9781534457690): Gong, Chloe: Books

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong,

I practically read this in one sitting. I did read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down.

It’s just nonstop action and the mystery element just begs to be solved. I haven’t had this much fun reading in a while.

Tell me something I don’t know: A book people keep recommending you which you already have it in your TBR pile

Amazon.com: Jade City (The Green Bone Saga, 1) (9780316440868): Lee, Fonda: Books

Jade City by Fonda Lee,

Look I’m as frustrated as everybody else that I still have this languishing on the pile.

I will read it, one day, hopefully soon.

Not that I’ve been saying that all year lol

I can’t get enough: A book series/world you just want more and more of

The Star-Touched Queen (The Star-Touched Queen, #1)

A Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi,

I know we have a companion novel, A Crown of Wishes, I adored it! Also, the short story collection, Star Touched Stories.

I really loved these and this is why I want to explore more of the world and maybe some other deities.

I love her writing style it’s so pretty and it fits the dreamy and often sharpness of fairytales.

evermore book tag

In honor of Taylor Swift’s birthday I’m doing a tag of her new album evermore.

I love both folklore & evermore the same but obviously there’s a special place in my heart for folklore. I love the story telling aspect in both of these albums they speak to my story loving heart.

This tag was made by Star is All Booked Up who also made the folklore book tag.

willow- character you’d follow anywhere

Iseult from the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard. Honestly, any character from this series I would follow anywhere. The world and the characters are amazing!

champagne problems- dual POV

We Used to Be Friends by Amy Spalding, not enough stories with the ending of friendships. Often times the hardest breakups are friendships.

gold rush- anticipated release

Witchshadow by Susan Dennard. I have waited soooo long and I can’t wait to devour this story!!

’tis the damn season- small town romance

Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton, this is more small village but same concept. The romance surprised me but fans of Maggie Stiefvater will like this.

tolerate it- lost love, failed relationship

You Say it First by Katie Cotugno, if you’ve read this than you know the relationship in this was horrendous and it was difficult to root for them.

no body, no crime- character who’d get away with murder

Kaz Brekker, Is this cheating?? It feels like it but it’s also the only one my brain can come up with.

happiness- a book that makes you suffer but you find comforting

Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty, this is a bittersweet kind of song and book. I feel this song really relates to a particular character in this series.

dorothea- nostalgic read

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa, These are such a good time for me. I haven’t re-read them in a while but they’re just a great escape. I’m happy a new spin off in this world is coming next year.

coney island- star crossed lovers

A Song of Wraiths & Ruin by Rosanne A. Brown, I hope they can get a happy ending even if its not with each other but I know only pain awaits.

ivy- crept up on you

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, this story starts off in a direction of hazy confusion for the reader and slowly begins unfolding its layers to reveal things that I’m still left pondering months after finishing the book. The writing in the song reminds me of this story.

cowboy like me- cat and mouse games

Fallen Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes. This whole series is a big cat and mouse game and everyone is trying to outsmart the others. Its very entertaining.

long story short- never read it again, painful experience

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, I’m grateful I read it the first half of the book is basically all highlighted because it just spoke literally of how my depression was like. It was tough to read it the first time in fact I had to put it down because I was worried of it triggering a relapse. SO as great as it is to find some solace in the words of someone who understood its also too painful to be reminded.

marjorie- book with a beautiful message

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill, This entire series just delivers in every way. From the cute illustrations to the wonderful characters and the messages of each book of family, love, grief, & finding ones self.

closure- a book with bad rep (a betrayal)

A House of Salt & Sorrow by Erin A. Craig, this isn’t a spoiler that obviously someone is going to betray the MC because its a horror and people are dying.

evermore- a journey of self discovery

The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta, this story is just wonderful and you get so much of the characters especially Micheal even though it’s written in verse. We watch him grow up and find his footing in the world and the too often difficulties for someone gay and mixed race.

If you are a Swiftie than consider yourself tagged by me 🙂

What’s your favorite song from evermore?

My top 5 as of right now is no body, no crime; ivy; long story short; willow; & ’tis the damn season
