Let’s wrap it up

Another month has come and gone which I find rude. Why Time gotta fly? Did you have a good month. If not I hope this one will be better ❤

Spring is here and everything is yellow and my head always hurts yay The beautiful flowers are worth the pain sometimes lol

The first two books I read were

Cold Iron Heart
Summer Bound (Wicked Lovely #5.2)

Cold Iron Heart, and Summer Bound by Melissa Marr

Rating: 2 out of 5.

The first is a prequel to her Wicked Lovely series and the other is the bridging of the prequel to the new continuation series. Last year I tried re reading the series because I wanted to read these new books in preparation of the next installment. I haven’t read past the first book since I read them the first time a decade ago. I found that I couldn’t continue on because they were worse than I remember. I enjoyed these books when I first read them because it deals with the fey and their darker natures. This all leads to Why did I pick these up? Because I had hoped they would be better. I’m glutton for punishment LMAO Cold Iron Heart was boring and then Summer Bound was just way too short but it did make me curious for what’s to come. LOOOOOL like seriously helpp me. Are there any books you pick up even though you’re probably not going to like them but you still have to know?

Aru Shah and the Tree of Wishes (Pandava Quartet, #3)

Aru Shah and the Tree of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

Rating: 4 out of 5.

WHAT was that ending ??!?!!? How DARE! Luckily for me I only have to suffer a couple more sleeps until this gets resolved & it better! Lol

It is so wonderful to see their friendships grow and watching them get more comfortable with their selves and each other. I just love this kind of growth.

I simply adore the myths and ways they’re introduced and I need to know how all of this is going to wrap up.

Witchshadow (The Witchlands, #4)

Witchshadow (extended excerpt) by Susan Dennard

I NEED THE WHOLE BOOK NOW! How am I to wait??? But wait I shall even though this book is going to end me. I think its been established that I love torturing myself lol Send Help.

I couldn’t help myself from requesting this on Netgalley because I’m a glutton for torture but I needed it. Since this got pushed back to June it’s been quiet on the teasers. This extended excerpt was a wild ride that has reinvigorated me to reread this whole series before diving into this book when I finally get in my hands.

I read three other books but they were re reads and that post can be found here As Good as I Remember

What I watched

Fruits Basket Wall Calendar - Calendars.com

Fruits Basket

I have tried watching the original a couple of times and just could. not. So I found myself awake and couldn’t go back to sleep one night and ended up binge watching the first season. I have since watched both seasons and I’m nervous and excited for the final season. I didn’t know that this show would get dark, like dark, dark. All I hear from or see from the fandom is shipping wars. Trigger warning for mental, emotional and physical abuse.

And lastly my Bingo board

This is the first month that I didn’t get a bingo 😦

For April’s board head over to Revealing April’s Bingo for all the details.

What was your favorite book of March?

Books I Forgot About

This could also be titled Series I want to Finish but I have to Start All Over. lol Not all of these are series but a couple are and I kind of want to finish them?? I say this like that because it’s been years since I picked up the first book and all of sudden I’m like I want to read those now. I doubt I’ll prioritize them but I thought this would make for an interesting topic.

Has this happened to you? One year you don’t want to continue the series and then BAM! You want too.

I didn’t rank these in any particular order. Sometimes I’m structured and sometimes I fly by the seat of my pants LOL

The first book on my list is

Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1)

Graceling by Kristin Cashore, I own Fire & I remember a little more of it but Graceling I only have vague recollection of the first chapter and that’s it.

I apparently read it in January of 2015, I don’t own it but I really want to re-read the series before reading Winterkeep.

Like I said I remember next to nothing so it will be like reading it for the first time lol

The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1)

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I’ve only read this first book which was back in Christmas of 2014

I just remember being less than enthused with the ending. It soured my experience because I felt I could see where this story was going based on a previous experience with this author.

All that being said, I kind of want to finish it. Maybe. lol

Flamecaster (Shattered Realms, #1)

Flamecaster by Cinda Williams Chima

I made a HUGE mistake. I read this book before reading the first series. It seemed like I was never going to get my hands on the Demon King and that whole quartet. This book was on sale and I thought I could get away with it. So I read this and then got my hands on the Seven Realms series LOLLL

I want to continue with this series and this world but something devastating happens to a character I love 😦 I don’t want to read it again with what I know now 😦 ;(

Poison Study (Study, #1)

Poison Study by Maria V. Synder

I didn’t love this like everyone else but I did grow to enjoy it. It’s just a really long series with a bunch of spinoffs and I wasn’t ready for the commitment lol

I remember the very beginning & the ending but nothing in between.

I’m also interested to see how my opinions will change.

Empire of Sand (The Books of Ambha, #1)

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri

I just read this back in early 2020 and I didn’t LOVE it liked I’d hoped. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the hell out of it buuut I just didn’t become a die hard. I think this is due to high expectations and reading it as an ebook. Sometimes my lack of enjoyment is due to how I read the book.

I want to read it again and really absorb it!

Gods of Jade and Shadow

Gods of Jade & Shadow by Silvia Moreno- Garcia

I read this in November of 2019 & I loved it!

This is less of I don’t remember it as much as it is I haven’t read since then because I don’t own a physical copy.

I remember this being a trip (literally) and I want to experience it again.

Have you read any of these?

Thanks for reading!!

Birthday Bash!

It’s my Birthday so I’ll talk about books if I want too. Shocking, I know! I found this fun prompt over at FNM and since this is my first year blogging I’d thought I’d participate.

Since I can’t go out I will be staying in and reading and eating…sweets. I have been craving Red Velvet for a month. I don’t care if it’s a cupcake, cookie or slice of cake I just want some.

This year has been…stressful is an understatement. Losing a job and family & to top off the turd cue the fly, it’s an election year that still isn’t over and still won’t be come tomorrow night.  I know many of you live overseas & don’t care, I get it.

I just need to acknowledge this year around the sun wasn’t at all how I pictured (who did?). And I really hope it does get better very soon. It’s my birthday I can be a hopeless optimist if I want.

To cope with the next 24 –to whenever the evil passes, I will be reading & ignoring responsibilities. If you want to aid in this task link to my Amazon Wishlist

Thanks to all of you who have joined me on this adventure wh0 read and like my content it has made a world of difference 🙂

The Birthday Cake

A Book with a plot that seems cliche but adore it anyway

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I love the characters so much & they really made the story for me. For me it’s always about characters when reading stories. If they aren’t intriguing than I couldn’t care less about the book.

Party Guests

Your most anticipated book release this year

Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty! I was blessed to read this and own it. My review can be found here. Just know it was everything to me. I’m happy to know more is on the way!

Birthday Presents

A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. I love mysteries but up until this point I hadn’t been reading very many. Then this series fell into my lap and I’ve been hooked ever since. 3 things to note: Victorian London, Fake Marriage, Slow burn romance.

“Happy Birthday” song

A book that deserved all the hype

Gods of Jade & Shadow by Silvia Moreno- Garcia. This book deserves all the hype even though I feel like it gets slept on. It has angst, it has witty smart banter. A road trip. The characters are the Best! There’s Mayan Mythology. What’s not to love??

Happy Music

A book with very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. “I think you’re a fairy tale. I think you’re magical, and brave, and exquisite. And I hope you’ll let me be in your story.”

“The library knows its own mind,” old Master Hyrrokkin told him, leading him back up the secret stairs. “When it steals a boy, we let it keep him.”

“Good people do all the things bad people do, Lazlo. It’s just that when they do them, they call it justice.”

Getting Older

A book read long ago, that you’d appreciate if you read it now

The Giver by Lois Lowry. This was difficult to find an answer to. I did enjoy the discussions when I read this story at 12 or 13 but I don’t think I fully appreciated those conversations until now.

Sweet Birthday Memories

A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period in your life

This could apply to so many books, but I really remember The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa just bringing back color and life into me again. I read this series during a very dark and difficult time and this was funny with hidden depth. This world took me out of mine for a little while and let me breathe again. For that this series will always hold a special place in my heart.

It’s time to go party and by party I mean read!

How do you celebrate your birthday?
