June Bingo Board || General Updates, 1 Year Anniversary

Hey is this thing on? Hello everyone long time no post. The last month and a half has been hectic to say the least. I’ve read nothing so it’s made coming on here the last thing I want to do. I have no content to provide for you. 😦 I’m so sorry for the lack of comments and interaction. I haven’t been in a good spot to interact.

I still wanted to post my June Bingo Board because I have enjoyed making these even though I haven’t used my last two.

I figured I would also take this time to update on a few things since I don’t know when I will be able to post again. It’s been a whole year today since I started this blogging journey and I already failed😅😆  I didn’t post my first post until June but I signed up in May. I’m hoping to get back soon because I have posts planned but not finished/ we will see.

I don’t want to go into many details just that life is weird and annoying right now and my mental health has taken a hit. And it has made motivation and content nonexistent. In more upbeat news I got a kitten take a look

His favorite pastimes are sleeping, eating and annoying his older sisters lol

I am somewhat consistent (as in a post at least once a week and use the stories feature)over on Instagram @PasteGreetings. I’m debating on making it more books and crafts because right now it’s just crafts. Buuut that means more work and commitments that I don’t think realistically I can do. That’s been the problem with this content I have no time and no motivation. 😑

I hope all of you are doing well and I hope to get to your posts real soon💙 Thanks for sticking with me!

Let’s wrap it up

Another month has come and gone which I find rude. Why Time gotta fly? Did you have a good month. If not I hope this one will be better ❤

Spring is here and everything is yellow and my head always hurts yay The beautiful flowers are worth the pain sometimes lol

The first two books I read were

Cold Iron Heart
Summer Bound (Wicked Lovely #5.2)

Cold Iron Heart, and Summer Bound by Melissa Marr

Rating: 2 out of 5.

The first is a prequel to her Wicked Lovely series and the other is the bridging of the prequel to the new continuation series. Last year I tried re reading the series because I wanted to read these new books in preparation of the next installment. I haven’t read past the first book since I read them the first time a decade ago. I found that I couldn’t continue on because they were worse than I remember. I enjoyed these books when I first read them because it deals with the fey and their darker natures. This all leads to Why did I pick these up? Because I had hoped they would be better. I’m glutton for punishment LMAO Cold Iron Heart was boring and then Summer Bound was just way too short but it did make me curious for what’s to come. LOOOOOL like seriously helpp me. Are there any books you pick up even though you’re probably not going to like them but you still have to know?

Aru Shah and the Tree of Wishes (Pandava Quartet, #3)

Aru Shah and the Tree of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

Rating: 4 out of 5.

WHAT was that ending ??!?!!? How DARE! Luckily for me I only have to suffer a couple more sleeps until this gets resolved & it better! Lol

It is so wonderful to see their friendships grow and watching them get more comfortable with their selves and each other. I just love this kind of growth.

I simply adore the myths and ways they’re introduced and I need to know how all of this is going to wrap up.

Witchshadow (The Witchlands, #4)

Witchshadow (extended excerpt) by Susan Dennard

I NEED THE WHOLE BOOK NOW! How am I to wait??? But wait I shall even though this book is going to end me. I think its been established that I love torturing myself lol Send Help.

I couldn’t help myself from requesting this on Netgalley because I’m a glutton for torture but I needed it. Since this got pushed back to June it’s been quiet on the teasers. This extended excerpt was a wild ride that has reinvigorated me to reread this whole series before diving into this book when I finally get in my hands.

I read three other books but they were re reads and that post can be found here As Good as I Remember

What I watched

Fruits Basket Wall Calendar -

Fruits Basket

I have tried watching the original a couple of times and just could. not. So I found myself awake and couldn’t go back to sleep one night and ended up binge watching the first season. I have since watched both seasons and I’m nervous and excited for the final season. I didn’t know that this show would get dark, like dark, dark. All I hear from or see from the fandom is shipping wars. Trigger warning for mental, emotional and physical abuse.

And lastly my Bingo board

This is the first month that I didn’t get a bingo 😦

For April’s board head over to Revealing April’s Bingo for all the details.

January Wrap Up

How was your month? Did it feel really short to you? Usually that’s not the case for me; it always ends up feeling like two years since December. In any case, I didn’t accomplish everything I set out to do which is aggravating. I think the toll of this last year is finally getting to me. I’ve deplored all of my usual tactics to no avail. I haven’t been as engaging in posts this month which also bums me out. Because of this I’ll only be posting once a week for the foreseeable future until things improve. There might be additional posts once in a while but for now I’m not pushing myself when I literally can’t. I know we’ve all been going through it and I want to send virtual hugs, cookies & books to you because you’re doing amazing!! ❤

Books I Read:

Black Enough edited by Ibi Zoboi

Black Enough: Stories of Being Young & Black in America

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is a collection of short stories about Black teens experiencing life. It’s contemporary and nothing wrong with that just that I don’t pick it up often because it isn’t my favorite. Outside of that these stories and characters were fantastic. We get to see teens being teens. It was nice to see stories about Black teens not centering on their trauma but on the difficulties of those years of not yet an adult but not a child.

Ms. Marvel by G. Gail Wilson

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A comic book superhero that is wonderful. I‘m not a huge superhero fan mostly for the lack of diversity. I don’t know how to tell most of them apart. Our heroine here is a Pakistani American Muslim who is just trying to get through high school. During a party she sneaks out to something happens and she garners powers. I’m looking forward to more of her story as not a lot is given in this but the art style and story look very promising.

Collection of Beatrix Potter by Beatrix Potter

A Collection of Beatrix Potter Stories

Rating: 4 out of 5.

These are a bind up of all the short stories with Benjamin, & Peter. I use to read the Peter one a ton as a kid and I don’t remember knowing that Peter and Benjamin were cousins lol

Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

The Year of the Witching

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I was really hoping I was going to love this but I did enjoy it so overall not a huge disappointment. This has instances where you can tell this is a debut nothing wrong with that but it did lessen the enjoyment.  This is a similar vibe to Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis.

Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers

Record of a Spaceborn Few (Wayfarers #3)

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I hate how long this took me to read. It wasn’t the books fault at all I just couldn’t get myself to pick it up. Again it sounds like the book but it wasn’t. I love Becky Chambers worlds they’re so creative and the characters are always the main center pieces and they always deliver. If you want a cozy* sci-fi experience then check out her books. I think her books make for a great place to start reading Adult Science Fiction if you’re not huge into the genre.

*By cozy I mean it feels very contemporary because it’s heavily character driven with a dash of sci-fi as the setting.

Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

The Winter of the Witch (Winternight Trilogy, #3)

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I love the atmosphere in these books. This is the conclusion and we get to see more of the other world which I think is fascinating. It’s difficult to talk about since I don’t want to spoil anything. This is a Russian folklore inspired story with political and religious elements woven in.

My Bingo Board:

If you want to check out February’s board its up at February Bingo Post

This is my stamped January board

I didn’t think I would get bingo Loll It’s been a tough month. When making these I don’t even take into consideration what I might want to read as I can’t stick to a strict reading schedule. So these boards aren’t skewed towards me.

Record of a Spaceborn few– Sapphic, 5th book on TBR

Winter of the Witch– Winter read, Royalty, Fantasy

Black Enough– Purple Cover, Black Main character,

Ms. Marvel– Short story, Science fiction, Graphic novel

Collection of Beatrix Potter– Animal on cover, Comfort read

Year of the Witching– Prologue, Silver or Gray cover, New to you author

Shows I watched:

This is something new I’m adding because I am dying to talk abut these with someone. I don’t usually include this section because I don’t watch much tv or movies.

Schitt’s Creek is something I delved into at the start of the month. I only got to the third season but I will be continuing with it. My one issue is Alexis her scenes with the two guys were so freaking cringe. I had to fast forward most of them by the end. I just can’t handle secondhand embarrassment. David and Moira are my favorites though!

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon is the other show I’ve been watching. I can’t tell you how much of a healing balm it’s been to relive,& revisit with a familiar world. I really enjoy these new characters they are the spitting image of their parent’s lol Watching this new show has made me go back & rewatch the original and that has also been great. This is why I re-read things to get back to a happy place. It’s just nice to be enveloped in a fun time & not worry about the stress. I really like the dynamics in this series where we’re focusing more on family bonds. I really hope it captures that balance of funny  and serious that made the original a favorite.

October Wrap up

I took part in the Hocus Pocus Readathon a month long readathon. I finished in a week. I’m as speechless as you.

I was on team Sanderson Sisters

Group book: Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker  4.5 Stars

This was a great start to a wonderful story.

Sarah: Blanca & Roja by Anna Marie McLemore     4 Stars

The writing is beautiful and graceful. It was like reading a beautiful rendered painting. I don’t usually gravitate towards these kinds of books because of their slower style but I really appreciated this one.

Winifred: Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton        3 Stars

This was strange lol. This was also an unexpected read as I didn’t plan on reading it. If you like Maggie Stiefvater you’re going to like this. I was thoroughly surprised by the polyamory relationship. This has small village vibes with local lore.

Mary: Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro & Cornelia Funke    5 Stars

I haven’t seen the movie but this story was incredible. I love Guillermo Del Toro’s style and it didn’t disappoint.

For the rest of the month it went as follows

Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee      3 Stars

I wished I loved it. I’ve been looking forward to this story all year and it didn’t live up to my expectations. It has the potential but it got lost somewhere, maybe in that forest. I will be reading the next book because I didn’t hate this story and I’m intrigued by what lays ahead.

A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Madanna    5 Stars

This has to be the best book I’ve read in a while. This was fun and entertaining the entire time. I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel!!

Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr Reread      3 Stars

This was a reread & it was just as I remember hence why the rating did not change.  I originally wanted to reread this series but I kind of don’t want to anymore but I only have two books left so we will see.

Take a Hint Dani Brown by Talia     4.5/5 Stars

I boarded the hype train and it was a grand ole time. This deserves all the love & hype and then some.

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie    4 Stars

I never know what to say about mysteries especially Agatha Christie’s because I’m afraid of spoiling anything. If you like her books you’ll like this one too.

The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan     5 Stars

The finally book in the Apollo series and it was just wonderful. These books and these stories are just a classic.

Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson    5 Stars

This was heartbreaking every second. And even though you know it’s impossible you still hold out hope for a better outcome. This is full of love for your best friends and the lengths taken to get answers even when they aren’t the ones you want to hear.

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson   5 Stars

This was the best! I had so much delight. It felt like all those 90’s early 2000’s Rom-Coms  I was obsessed with and I need more of this please and thank you. Do yourself a favor & read this story.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke 4 Stars

WEIRD. I can’t describe this book. It felt like being suffocated. That doesn’t sound pleasant & it isn’t at first but as the book progresses you start to see and understand more and it will f&%* you up.

A House of Salt & Sorrow by Erin A. Craig 4 Stars

A spooky retelling of the 12 Dancing Princess with plenty of twists. The atmosphere was the best part of this whole story and then all the plot twists.

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd- Jones 4 Stars

This made me cry. Death and what that exactly means for the dead and the living. I liked the chronic rep this book has.

The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta 5 Stars

This was a beautiful & fierce read that I’ll be thinking about for a while. Verse writing packs such a mighty punch with such short sentences. This is a coming of age story of finally being able to stand in your truth and embrace your power.
